"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" Book Release Party
July 20th (Friday night)
Transformed into Hogwarts for the night, The Painted Lady hosted Harry Potter fans, young and old, in celebration of the seventh and final chapter of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Fellow Downtown Plymouth merchants attended as Hogwarts staff and other favorite characters to help support the event. Our partygoers also joined in the fun - showing up as witches, Mr. Filch, Hermione, house elves, and goblins. The young Hogwarts students were sorted into the four houses, received spell books, attended Potions class with Professor Snape, tested their knowledge of Harry Potter trivia in the Triwizard Tournament, enjoyed Harry's favorite tasty treats and much more!
Released at midnight, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" copies were wrapped in brown paper and twine and accompanied by handcarved wooden wands handcarved or bright feathered quills. Of each book purchase, $5 will be donated to encourage the magic of education at our local Plymouth schools. The money will go to the Robert G. Cummings Scholarship Fund at West Elementary, established in memory of the late Principal Cummings. Each year, this fund gives a scholarship to a graduating Plymouth North senior. Also, The Painted Lady will give some of the donation money to the PCIS library.

"Wonders of the World" Sidewalk Chalk Event
June 16, 2007 (Saturday)
On Saturday afternoon, June 16, children spent the afternoon learning about the Wonders of the World through Chalk Art by Chris Sykes and Lauren Buckman Jezierski of Plymouth. They enjoyed coloring in the borders of each art scene and a "Find and Seek" in the Chalk Art. The sidewalks of Downtown Plymouth looked beautiful with their colored illustrations of scenes done by Chris Sykes in "When Flamingos Fly."
St. Patrick's Day Festival in Downtown Plymouth
March 17, 2007 (Saturday)
"Irish Eyes" definitely smiled on the first annual St. Patrick's Day celebration in downtown Plymouth. There was live music all day at Kiskadee Coffee Shop, a traditional Irish breakfast offered by The Winslow Cafe, and a Corned Beef & Cabbage lunch/dinner by the Colonial Restaurant. Young ones visited The Painted Lady shop for some fun - limericks readings and a bit of face painting by Peta Sheperd, a master at painting shamrocks and pots of gold. The luck of the Irish was certainly with Ms. Jan Williams of Carver, MA, who was "right on the money" when she guessed the exact weight of our pig at 61 lbs. The clay garden pig was filled to the "Irish brim" with all kinds of goodies from your favorite downtown merchants. Thank you to all who participated! We hope you had an enjoyable day!

Pink Flamingos Abound on February 10, 2007
Pink flamingos flocked into the Painted Lady Shop when one of their favorite illustrators, Chris Sykes, came by for a book signing. The event was a whole lot of "pink flamingo" kind of fun for all! Valentine's Day Raffle prizes included pink flamingos statues and signed prints by Chris from the popular story "When Flamingos Fly" (written by Maureen Piano).

With flamingo pen in hand, Chris Sykes autographs her book. Flamingos really do fly as they hover over the heads of these ladies.

Chris is surrounded by some of her adoring flamingo fans. Everyone was in the pink and all smiles at day's end!
Historic Christmas in Plymouth
This celebration kicked off the winter holiday season with activities like hayrides, caroling, and even Santa rolling into town on an antique fire truck! This particular evening bore witness to a cold pelting rain, which dampened some of the scheduled fun and games, but did little to weaken the resolve, spirit, and enthusiasm of those who attended. At The Painted Lady, visitors enjoyed warm cider and cookies while listening to classic holiday readings. Thank you to both Carol Johnson and Joan Barlow, who were kind enough to entertain us through their readings.
November 18, 2006 "America's Hometown Thanksgiving Parade"
Simply put – America’s Hometown Parade was a wonderful family-oriented event that surely brought out the child in all of us! Hard to resist toe-tapping to all the drum and bugle corps, which played in perfect harmony! Or marvel at the beauty of the horses proudly high-stepping along the parade route. Let’s not forget the re-enactors who dressed in period costume in honor of our history.

The first of many great floats in the parade and a rare opportunity for a Mayflower look-a-like to sail down Main Street.

Who could possibly resist seeing the magnificent Clydesdale horses ambling down Main Street? Just the night before – these grand animals mosied along the same route, making a number of ceremonial stops to deliver a complimentary case of Budweiser beer to cafes and restaurants.

Drum and fife corps are amazing to watch and even more amazing to hear!

Certainly no cat naps while this red-coated soldier was around! Needless to say, he diligently manned the big gun and made a big bang wherever he went.

Talk about a bountiful harvest, this balloon depicted a vegetable bouquet unlike any you’d ever seen. Just be thankful that you didn’t have to eat all these vegetables before you could leave the dinner table!

August 27, 2005 "An Afternoon of Back to School Fun" with one of TPL's favorite Storybook Illustrator's- Judy Love! |
| The Painted Lady just loves to bring Story Time to the shop and what better occasion than the weekend before school re-opens! Judy Love, the illustrator of "First Day Jitters," entertained a young audience by reading stories, and sketching her delightful characters! Children participated by coloring and drawing right along with Judy! We all love when Judy visits The Painted Lady because she draws characters who make us laugh! ("First Day Jitters" was written by Julie Danneberg and published by Charlesbridge Publishing House of Watertown, MA.) |

July, 15 2005 "A Young Wizard & A Painted Lady Make Magic"
More than 100 muggles restlessly waited for The Painted Lady doors to open at 10 p.m. for release of J. K. Rowling's sixth book in the Harry Potter series. |
| Professors mingled with "first year students" and the like..... anticipating that there might be a great new seeker amongst the mix! Much of the time was spent munching on homemade sweets such as magic wands, getting fortunes read by Professor Trelawney, and being sorted by the Sorting Hat. |
 |
|
Normally the cabinets at the Painted Lady would display a colorful, seasonal blend of "art and collectibles." For this celebration, the display cabinets were transformed into "classroom stations" for each of the Hogwart's professors who partied with the muggles!

| Professor Dumbledore, a member of the Gringotts Bank, and Hermione Granger - after all first year students had retired to their respective "Houses" at the end of a very magical evening! |
